I have never tried to fool with the path but couldn't that be done with
'export'? may try it the next time I try out a liveCD, most recent
experience being with OpenSuse 3.3 and Kubuntu 7something.
I do not see how an export could work. The CD is the system.
Live distributions are mostly for demo purposes. They are not intended to be what you use all the time. The exceptions are like the one to play A/V stuff on a Windows machine where you cannot install linux on the HD. Like cheating at the office or self-contained video distributions.
Please answer this. WHY do you not simply boot the computer on its own WITHOUT the live disc? You said you have it installed. Why not use it? Is there a problem with using the installed version? You are gaining nothing trying to make it work the way you appear to want it to work. The very fact you are trying it is confusing at least two of us here. What you say you are trying to do is not a reasonable thing to try to do.
