Hi,
I have FC5 and I'd like to upgrade. I have downloaded the FC8 and made
a DVD. When I reboot my laptop to start installation, it cannot
recognize the FC8 DVD and fails to start with that so in contiunes
with the old OS that I had. What' s wrong? is it related to FC8 or my
computer?
Can your computer boot from DVD? Did you write the iso to the DVD as a file
or as raw? (If you insert the dvd after the system is running, mount the
DVD if need be, say on /mnt/dvd, and do
ls /mnt/dvd, do you see a whole bunch of files and directories of do you
see somethingorothr.iso The latter is wrong.

interesting ! I can see just on dvd THEFULLNAME.iso and NOT the list
of all files and directory as you say. I simply download the .iso file
and burn it (without anything else as an option etc..).
I noticed another thing: when it starts to boot from DVD, gives a
message for REALLY less than 1 second: 'gnu loading stage2''. what
does it mean? Googling tells me there should be another file to get
also. any idea??
My GOD! you burn the dvd in a bad way. you should burn it as a
"BOOTABLE dvd", NOT a data dvd...you have to burn another one...
