I have to install the Grub Loader to the MBR of my Windows Partition
(4th Partition) and the grub itself (/grub folder) is in my linux /
boot
partition located on the 5th partition. .. how do i do that, i looked
into the manual but i'm not entirely sure about all that.
Is this line correct or am i screwing my system with that ?
grub-install --root-directory=/boot /dev/sda3
1) Isn't the 4th partition /dev/sda4 ?
i thought it starts counting with zero ?
I don't think so.
The grub notation eg "root (hd0,0)" does start with 0,
but not the Linux notation /dev/sda1 .
2) I don't think you need to give the root-directory.Long Story Short, ... :)
If you did it would be --root-directory=/ .
But that is the default.
3) Your message is ambiguous.
Where is the /boot partition?
What distribution are you running?
Its a Macbook Pro
with follwing Partitions
[EFI][Mac-OS][MacData][WinXP][/boot] and the grub folder is on my /
boot partition (100Mb)
This is ambiguous.
What do you mean by / boot partition?
