I had this same problem when I tried to upgrade to FC7 and gave up due

Now im trying to upgrade to FC8 and I ran into it again and remembered
it
was the same before.

I run through the upgrade screens and when it asks what partition to
upgrade
(which it says is /dev/sda3 - the only partition to upgrade with
fedora) I get
a popup window which says:

Error enabling swap device hda5: No such device or address

Sounds like the old kernel saw your hard drive as /dev/hda and the new
one sees it as /dev/sda. Just edit /etc/fstab.

FWIW:
Fedora 6 > uses labels in the fstab so the OP may have to fix the volume
label as well. YMMV
