Indeed. The one thing linux users want less than anything else
that windows has, is a single point of failure proprietory opaque
unreadable blob containing every system config (and lots of
application configs).
Yes... biggest problem with Windows isn't the all eggs in one basket
approach (though certainly a problem), but rather it's just the fact
that the basket has holes and occasionally catches on fire.
And the holes in the basket cannot be repaired (and fires cannot be
put out) without using yet another proprietary tool.
