I'm trying to set up a debian workstation with gnome. I managed to set
up the sources.list file so it downloads unstable packages and now I
have installed gnome. I want to use the screensaver and sound.

I read I have to run xscreensaver-demo. When I do so it complains xscreensaver
daemon isn't running. I tell it to launch it. After a while it core dumps.
I don't see any xscreensaver daemon. How can I configure it ?

I also have to manually run esd when I start gnome. What am I missing ?

These are some package versions:

gnome 30
gnome-audio 1.4.0-4
gnome-desktop- 2.2.2-1
sawfish-gnome 1.0.1.20020116
xscreensaver 4.10-1
xscreensaver-g 4.10-1 transition package for xscreensaver

Thank you for your time
