max window size?

    i am in the need to run an app designed for a new computer on an old
    laptop

    the app windows are about 800x800

    the laptop is an old Texas Extensa 367T (with a Neomagic 128VZ 1Mb video
    card and an 800x600 lcd panel) running Mandrake 9 (kernel 2.4.19 and X
    4.2.1 w icewm)

    point is that when the app starts obviously it does not fit into the lcd
    monitor.
    Moving the window offscreen (ctrl+alt+left_click) to resize it and see the
    missing parts does not work as i am allowed to resize it to a certain
    point and no more!

    what could it be?

    1. there is no limitation in the resizing policy of the app
    2. thought it could be a lack of video memory, so i am running X on the
    laptop at 800x600 8bpp that should give me enough offscreen memory
    3. the same thing happens with twm so it cant be a WM issue either
