A little help with getting X Started??

    OK, installed RH 8 on an AMD System, couldn't probe for a monitor, so i
    just selected a generic monitor at 800x600 @ 60hertz.
    When it comes time to boot up, i don't geta graph login, just the usual
    text login, i login as root, type starx and all i get is an error about
    monitor found, but it hasnt got any usable configurations, OR it just comes
    up with a screen with some gibberish.
    Anyone got any ideas?
