i seem to be observing that there are more than one implementations of
"clipboard" functionality in x. for example, i can't copy text from
emacs into mozilla but i can copy text from gedit into mozilla. i can
copy text from mozilla into emacs but not vice versa. what the heck
is going on?

i'm using the usual suspects "middle-click" (i.e., click both mouse
buttons at once) and shift-INSERT. mozilla, of course, uses C-v for
paste, but that will never get you something you copied into the
clipboard in emacs or from an xterm. so, i can copy one piece of text
from emacs to lynx; go to mozilla & do C-v and i will get a completely
different text.

is there any way from the user end to make these applications behave,
or am i stuck with whatever the developers decide to give me?

thanks.

using XFce 3.8.18, btw.
