What's that logo called.

You know when you start X-Windows, a little pointer/icon appears in the
middle of the screen. What is that called. A google search
on "X startup icon" reveals nothing, no even a glossary or help page
saying what it's really called.

Is there any way to get rid of this Icon, say by replacing the bitmap
or adjusting some config file?
