    X 4.1 (released in December 2001) is probably too old to support this
    particular card. Upgrade; they're at X 4.3.0 right now. You should
    also look at /var/log/XFree86*.log for any clues as to why it's failing.

    Er... are you using the VESA X server, then? That always works, but
    it's slow.

    Maybe, but you can definitely do better than VESA. Upgrade your X and
    try again.
