Hi there !
My config: RedHat 7.2 with kernel 2.4.20-21, on a Pentium IV with 256 MB
RAM. I am not a regular user of Gnome, since I mostly used fvwm2 up to
now. However, I wanted to try Gnome, especially since the new version of
OpenOffice/StarOffice no longer has a desktop of its own. So, on Gnome
desktop, I have setup a number of icons. Some of these used to belong to
the task bar, others are added applications or documents that are set to
open with various applications such as OpenOffice for instance.
Problem is: upon starting gnome, these icons do appear allright at times,
they will fail to appear other times. When this happen, I just quit X and
start it again ; I may have to do this several times until the icons do
appear, or else, some other times, I will have to use 'switchdesk fvwm',
close and restart X, another 'switchdesk gnome', close and startx, and then it
will most likely work allright at least for once or twice...
Would someone know what would be the cause of such strange behaviour ?
Thanks in advance for any input.
