Hi fellow linuxers,
I am trying to get XFree86 4.3.0 to work on an Intel 855 GM graphics
chipset.
I have a fresh, "everything from stock" installation of Suse 8.2
(Standard kernel 2.4.20-4GB) on my FSC Lifebook E4010.
lsmod shows agpgart and i810 modules are loaded, but XFree86 4.3.0 bombs
out with no useful information whatsoever:
"Fatal server error:
Caught Signal 11. Server aborting"
Suse's hardware database lists intel's 855 GM as fully supported for
8.2, but it just doesn't seem to work for me.
What I have noticed is that my XF86Config only shows Modelines for
"1400x1050", which is the native display size of this laptop, but quite
an unusal screen resolution. However, I would then at least expect some
other message like "no valid modes" or something to that extent instead
of X just dying ungracefully.
Could anybody perhaps point me in the right direction ?
Much appreciated !
thx,
Martin
