    hi NG,

I'm running Slackware 9.1 on a machine with an ATI Rage128PRO video adapter.
    I've
upgraded KDE to version 2.3.1 and Xfree86 to version 4.4.0.
I immediately get problems with starting X, so I run "xf86config" and set
the resolution to 1280x1024 @ 74Hz and color depth to 24bit, but the x
server isn't able to come up.
In the log file of xfree the error lines are the following:

(EE) VGA(0): Given depth (24) is not supported by this driver.
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

After this error I tried to put the depth to 16, but the error was the
sameuntil I set it to 8 bit.
With 8bit color depth the desktop is horrible and I cannot work right, and
    there's an other problem to:
if I start KDE I can see approximately only 640x480 pixels of the
1280x1024...this means that after the KDE login I'm only able to see the
    bottom-left corner of the desktop.

    please help me!

    Thank you very much

    Christian
