    You need to use a network sound daemon. The only one that I know of
    that had support in mplayer is ESD. You'll have to run ESD on both the
    main machine and the X terminal, and you'll have to put various
    configuration parameters into both instances of esd. I don't know
    precisely what to do here since I've never wanted or needed to do this.

    mplayer is trying to use the Xv extension, which only works for local
    displays. You need to feed mplayer -vo x11 and -ao esd . You also need
    to think again about playing full motion video on an X terminal; that'll
    consume a *lot* of bandwidth and processor power. Maybe it'll work, but
    I wouldn't bet on it. See if you can run mplayer locally; that'll save
    you a lot of hassle.
