So, does every version of this product have the same type of LCD
connected?

Nope. X tries, but some monitors don't report EDID info or report bad
EDID info. Which X server are you using, anyway? Have you looked in
/var/log/XFree86*.log for the logs that X writes? The first (EE) line
from that file and some context for it would be useful to see.

Ctrl-Alt-F[1-6] should get you to a text console, where you can run a
text-based X configuration tool like YaST or xf86config or X -configure
. If your /etc/inittab doesn't start mingettys or agettys on tty1-tty6,
you need to fix your /etc/inittab so that it starts at least one getty
until this problem is fixed. If no gettys are started, you may have to
boot the system with "linux init=/bin/sh" so you can get in there, fix
inittab with vi or pico, and reboot.

If all your machines have the same video chipset and the same monitor,
you can create one XF86Config file using an X configuration tool and use
it on all your machines. If they all have the same monitor but
different video chipsets, you can use the same Monitor section for all
your machines.
