Does xgamma work under Xorg?

I need to know if xgamma works under Fedora Core 2 running Xorg.

It runs on my Dell laptop but when when I change the gamma, it has no
effect.

If I run xvidtune, it tells me my display card doesn't allow
adjustments, which makes sense for an LCD laptop. But perhaps xgamma
also doesn't work.

I intend to upgrade another computer with a CRT to Fedora Core, and that
is the one that I need xgamma to work on.
