It probably wouldn't have helped. The problem turned out that I was using
the wrong agp driver. I had wrongly assumed that the driver to use with
an sis motherboard was sis_agp. Turns out that the amd athlon 64 has it's
own agp hardware and the driver to use is amd64-agp.
