save install list / for next install ?

I'd like to save my current package configuration...
that is, when I reinstall, use a list which will install
ONLY what I have installed now.

Is this do-able ? Im sure I could just do a new
install, and go through picking out applications I
dont need, but can it be done automatically with a
file of some kind ?
