So you want to use KDM to start KDE. You can do by letting XDM not from
executing automatically.
for debian rc-update which will let you start the service based on the
run level. i don't know which distribution you are using such as debian
or redhat and the command is different, even though the final result is
the same.
using the script remove xdm and add kdm to automatically start in the
level which in your case might be 2 or 3
this is similar to creating symlinks of
/etc/init.d/kdm
in
/etc/rc2.d /etc/rc3.d like.
