xdmx related query

I have two machines h1, and h2. Both h1 and h2 run Suse Linux 9.1,
have X server running, and I have issue xhost + on both of them. The
displays on h1 and h2 are -

h1:0.0 and h2:0.0

I issue the following command on host h1 -

> Xdmx :1 +xinerama -display h1:0.0 -display h2:0.0 -ignorebadfontpaths

Xdmx fails with an error message - Xdmx failed to open display h1:0.0

Does this mean that if Xdmx runs on host h1, it cannot have a backend
X server running on the same host h1?

Is it enforced by Xdmx that the backend X servers should be running on
hosts other than the one on which Xdmx front-end X server runs?

Thanks,
Aditya Kulkarni
