Good evening, all...
I have two computers running Fedora Core 3. One has a Matrox G400
dual-head board and the other has a Matrox G550 dual-head. After a
bit of thrashing about followed by some RTFM'ing I managed to get them
to work correctly on both monitors by installing the latest Matrox
Linux driver (4.1).
Now I would like to add a third monitor using a Matrox G200, and
herein lies the problem. I plug in the G200 and kudzu recognizes and
configures it. Then I try to start up X, and it won't recognizer the
G200 or the second head on the G400/550 anymore ... reverts back to
single-head mode.
I have tried manually editing xorg.conf (which I'd have to do anyway,
because it doesn't seem like the graphical display configuration tool
can handle more than two screens), and no luck.
This is the kind of arrangement that used to work fine on Slackware
3.x and Red Hat 7.x ... in fact I used to run Slackware with FOUR
(count 'em) G200s driving four monitors and everything worked just
fine.
These are both dual boot machines, one of which boots to WinXP and the
other of whcih boots to Win2K. Both machines, when running Windows,
see all three displays just fine.
I have tried just plugging the G200 in and telling kudzu not to
configure it, hoping that for now I can use Linux in two-head mode and
Windows in three-head mode, but that doesn't work either ... just
plugging in the G200, whether or not it's configured, is enough to
screw up the G400 / G550 multi-head mode.
I have four G200s and have tried them all, on the chance that maybe
one or two of them is bad (though as I say they work in Windows), but
no joy.
Any ideas?
Thanks...
CJ
