That's why I highlighted "from a *console*" in an earlier post. ie.
you'd have to switch from your "X" session to a "console" before using
RightAlt+F1.. or Ctrl+F1.. etc..

Never done this before myself since 12 vt's was always plenty for me..
And I tend to avoid Function keys since I use a PC-type keyboard -
mostly a laptop's) and function keys are everything but easily accessible.
The Keyboard and Console howto has some hints in section 7. "Switching
consoles" as to how this might be done using the loadkeys command.

You're very welcome. But as Bill Marcum wrote.. What the heck do you
want with all these consoles..?? :-)
If you explained what you actually plan to achieve "functionally" rather
than starting from a possible implementation via function keys somebody
might come up with a solution that'll work out-of-the-box.
In other words I personally tend to get confused when I have more
desktops (or vt's) than I have fingers in both my hands.. Can't remember
where my stuff is.. So it's a bit odd to want to have all those consoles
at your fingertips. Like you would use all of them on a regular basis.
B. Marcum suggested gnu/screen which among other great features (such as
cutting/pasting and dis/rec-onnecting screen sessions) lets you create a
title/mnemonic for each virtual terminal and display the list at the
bottom of your display.
Any particular reason why you must use vt's..?
