Jumpy Mouse Syndrome with Logitech USB

Hi all,

My Logitech USB mouse is exhibiting a bizarre problem
with the latest X release.

Quite simply, it does not move smoothly, but jumps
between points that seem to be every 4 pixels or so,
as if it were snapping to a grid. I can put the pointer
on pixels 0,4,8,12 etc... but it is impossible to put it on
pixels 1,2,3,5,6,7, etc.

My xorg.conf has protocol as Auto and the mouse
is /dev/mouse.

I am all the more confused by this because I am
under the impression that mice transmit relative-motion
events, not absolute-motion as with touchpads.
These relative motion events should have a resolution
of 1 unit, not 4 or more.

FYI, my screen resolution is 1280x1024.

Can anyone assist?

Thanks.
