Is it possible to change the output display of a program without
restarting it? For example, I would like to be able to specify that a
program currently outputting to localhost:0 should move to the display
associated with Vnc.
You need to start xmove to create a proxy server, then direct X clients
to start with DISPLAY set to that proxy server. xmove and xmovectrl
then allow you to redirect the X clients to other real X servers. Not
sure about trying this with VNC, though, but it might work. HTH,
