Mandriva 2006 --- anything in /var needed for X

Hi, I have a machine experiencing hard drive failure.... my /var
partition is corrupt. I want to get the machine up and running with X
for a short time. I took the /var parition out of my fstab but now X
won't work (Xorg...) what is required in /var to get X to work?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
