How large (in bytes) was test.txt ? Have you done anything else to the
drive ?

If test.txt is one block long (smaller than 512 bytes) then you have lost
the partition table only, if which case a bit careful juggling might get
the data back.

I would suggest that you not try and get clever, as any unwise operation
you perform on the disk will lessen the chance of recovery.
