How to run a second X server at a different resolution

How can I load a second X server and a simple window manager in a
different resolution in display 0:1 in KDE?

Normally I use KDE 3.4 with Slackware 10.2 with a 1280x1024
resolution. This works great but dosemu is too small.

Most of my dos programs in dosemu _require_ an 80x25 xerm window to
load. This window is too small to easily read in 1280x1024 resolution
but 800x600 is much better.

Although I can change the resolution (alt-ctl-keypad +/-) to 800x600
so the dosemu programs are happy and easy to read, this changes _all_
of my KDE virtual windows to 800x600 - a real PITA to switch and use.

My question is how to load a second X server running a simple wm at
800x600 in display 0:1. Twm is nice and simple because it by default
loads an xterm conveniently at 80x25.

Should I run xinit with parameters? Somewhere I read xinit is only for
use by the _first_ X window to run. My startx _only_ runs KDE (unless
I run xwmconfig to change the wm) although I notice that xinit will
run any window manager in /etc/X11/xinit with the right parameter.

I have tried from a user console:
X :1 &
xauth add :1 . ?mcookie? To grant permissions, doesn't work
xterm --display :1
I get a screen on alt-F8 with a simple X in the middle but cannot get
an xterm to load.

In trying to get a second X running, I've munged the X system twice
requiring a hard reboot. This is dangererous so I would appreciate
some knowledgable advice.

Thank you
Larry
