Hi,

starting
dkraft@newton/home/dkraft> xterm
I get
Warning: Color name "black" is not defined

dkraft@newton/home/dkraft> ll /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt
is present

How can I activate the colors?

Maybe someone has managed to delete the black entry in the rgb.txt, then add it manually, you can check this easily with: grep black /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt

Another possibility is that your X is configured to look for the file in another place, see to that you have
RgbPath "/usr/share/X11/rgb"

//Aho
solution:
in Fedora Core 5
the location of the database has changed
from
# RgbPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb"
to
RgbPath "/usr/share/X11/rgb"
in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
thanks again
