KDE su: problems

I installed kubuntu, but when I try to execute any admin operation, it asks
for a password. First I tried with the root password, but it didn't work. So
I figured out it was sudo, not su, and tried with the user password. No
luck. Note that both sudo and su work well from command line. Somebody told
me to launch "sudo kcontrol" from a shell, but nothing happens when I do
that. Can anybody give me some advice?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Grim
