Turning off mouse shadows in X Xorg 6.8 on Ati M9 hardware

I'm looking for a way to turn off mouse pointer shadows under X.

There are a number of xconf options to do this when running with Nvidia
drivers.

Does anyone have a method that work on ATI. This needs to be a startup
configuration setting (not one using the a window manager).

Any help would be appreciated! I rather avoid having to have two
different version of an Xserver, just to support shadow-less mouse
pointers.
