I have a strange problem. Wonder If someone could help?
ISSUE:
If Xfree server was ever started during the session the poweroff and
similar procedures can't switch the power off
DETALS:
On Debian
With kernel 2.6.16.19 (tried earlier ones from 2.6.8)
On ASUS P5GD1 motherboard with HyperThreaded Intel processor
With compiled ACPI and without APM (cos I need HyperThreading)
With NVIDIA GT6600
I. If I do not start X server and type poweroff - the computer will
switch off.
II. 1a. If I start X server with nvidia driver
1b. Or with vesa driver
2a. With Kdm
2b. Or With startx.
3a. And then kill the X server by ALT-CTRL-BACKSPACE
3b. Or simply do "su - -c poweroff"
Computer freezes just before the the power shutdown with
"acpi_power_off called"
I also tried to rmmod the graphics driver before the call of poweroff.
I don't know if Xserver is really related here. Do you have any
guesses?
Thanks in advance.
Check if there are any remaining tasks (especially zombie) left over
from X. I would sort by T(ime) to tell. Check also your logfile from X
in /var/log to see if there is any relevant messages left there.
