Hi, I have a computer with an Nvidia/eVGA "Personal Cinema" Geforce 4 MX
440, outputting to a TV by S-video. It runs SuSE 10.2. Since I can't
get X up, it only uses text mode, which isn't good for what should
eventually become a MythTV box. It's good that the text displays on the
TV...

Hactar, you invented the first intelligent TV! :-D

Blame Nvidia too, they helped!

How should I set up X?

Try

http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/suse-linux-help/43764-nvidia-tv-out-config.html

and google around for *nvidia xorg.conf tv*

Thanks, that should help.

I'll need to install Nvidia's binary-only X driver, for which I need the
kernel source (it compiles a kernel module too, I believe). Now, I
could just copy 2.6.15.1 kernel, source, and modules from my other
machine by sneakernet to replace 2.6.18.2-24 (same card, similar
motherboard) and tweak the source parameters for any differences. OR,
I could use Yast2 (the text-mode variant of Yast) to install the source
from the installation CDs. 1, is it on there; and 2, how do I get to
it?
