It *should* work under Xorg just as in XFree. Under some versions of
Mandriva it works and others it does not. I'm not sure whether to
blame Mandriva or Xorg. Check for updates / bugfixes.
Under WHICH versions of Mandriva does it not work for you?
I've forgotten. Sorry. It works now with the current updates for
M2007.0. It stopped working for a while sometime during the last
couple of years. I think what happened was that either M2006 or
M2007.0 worked "out of the box" then stopped working after a
security update and then a month or so after that another update
fixed it.
Also, I was getting confused with the Ctr-Alt-KP+/- zooming. That
is currently broken on M2007.0 but working on M2007.1rc3. I'm pretty
sure that that has started and stopped working a couple of times
in the last few years.
At the moment I am using M2007.0 with
x11-server-xorg-1.1.1-11.3mdv2007.0
If you really want more detail you could search through bugzilla
at qa.mandriva.com for old bugs.
Something broke in Xorg's keyboard configuration files. When I just
built a new Xorg 7.2 system, the virtual switching died. From what I
can tell, looks like a file that should be in the kbd
(/usr/X11R7/etc/kbd on my system) database isn't there. Startup leaves
log messages about xkbcomp not finding one set of
definitions. (Something about pc(pc) symbols, if I remember
correctly.) Not sure how far back this goes. Some of the linux vendors
might have caught it and fixed it, others maybe not right away.
Running this fixes it for me.
setxkbmap -v 10 -rules base
Seems to be lots of bugs about this topic, but they don't follow thru
to the fix I came up with, so they could potentially be different
problems.
