Dear Travis:
Your cable company should have given you a set of several address to
use. The common ones are
Gateway, PrimaryDNS & SecondaryDNS. Usually those gateways that using
dynamic addressing provide the client that is booting with its IP address.
This is usually done with DHCP, which stands for "Dynamic Host Configuration
Prototol". There are a couple of variations on this theme, depending on
whether or not you have static or dynamic IP addresses from your internet
provider.

The internet provider is obligated to provide you with sufficient
information, including the appropriate gateway, DNS servers, mail servers,
news servers and the like.

Supporting windows or Linux is not the issue. The issue is that you have
to setup your computer, be it windows or Linux to be compatible with the
settings provided by your internet service provider.

It may be that if your issue is familiarity with Linux, that you might
want to start with either the books that came with your RH9 distribution,
followed by either the book "RH9 Unleashed", or "RH9 Secrets".

In addition, you may want to ask your cable company to provide you with
the settings necessary for network connection of your computer to their
network and in providing you with that information, you should be able to
discern which of the settings is different between your windows and your
Linux system.
