(anything like) DirectX ?

    I'm thinking about writing a game-like app, and got some (crazy?) idea to
    make it portable.
    I hear that OpenGL is more or less an alternative for the graphical part of
    DirectX, but what about DirectInput (joysticks, steering wheels, etc.)?
    What's the API I am going to use for that stuff on Linux?
