Did you pass the right 'root=/dev/hdXY' option during boot?

Next time, make sure *before* you post. We can't help you based on
things that *might* have happened.

Post *exact* error messages, not your interpretation of it.

That's not the error message, that's only the indication that
something went wrong. The error message(s) can be found above that
line.

Which isn't surprising since you unpacked the source in /home/user.
