The correct order is to compile a kernel first, and then emerge
alsa-driver.

So Alsa recognises the two cards. Good.

First of all, you should have /dev/sound/dsp and /dev/sound/dsp1. The
/dev/dsp* things are just symlinks, and of second importance. What is
in /dev/sound?
