Bizarre: Linux RH 8.0 install and pre-existing Win 2000.

I know this is slightly OT, but I trust the regulars of comp.os.linux
to be more knowledgeable here.

I have a bizarre problem. After a Red Hat Linux install, I had the
following setup (RH fdisk -l output below). Linux installed fine to
/dev/hdg*. However, when booting /dev/hde1 (Windows), Windows starts
up and then dies. The root of the problem here is that no version of
Windows/DOS recognizes /dev/hde1 or /dev/hdh2, and /dev/hdh1 has no
system. However, I'm still able to mount the ntfs partition in Linux
with everything intact. Would anyone recommend a recovery tool that
would "fix" the hde1 partition so that Windows itself recognizes it?
Ghost gdisk.exe agrees with Linux that the partition is fine. Is it
possible that the windows boot is trying to load whatever is on
/dev/hdh1?

The details:
------------

Disk /dev/hdg: 16 heads, 63 sectors, 23059 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hdg1 * 1 203 102280+ 83 Linux
/dev/hdg2 204 22019 10995264 83 Linux
/dev/hdg3 22020 23059 524160 82 Linux swap

Disk /dev/hdh: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 4982 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hdh1 * 1 1024 8225248+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hdh2 1025 4982 31792635 c Win95 FAT32 (LBA)

Disk /dev/hde: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 9964 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hde1 * 1 9964 80035798+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
