dual-boot install with SATA + IDE drives

I'm building a new PC with an Intel 875P chipset that will have:

  -a pair of SATA drives (either RAID 0 or RAID 1, not sure yet!) on
which Windows XP will be installed as the primary OS;

  - a parallel IDE drive on which I'll install RedHat 9 (for now, and
Fedora Core, probably, later) in a dual-boot configuration, with grub as
master boot loader; this will be master on the 1st IDE channel;

  - a CD-RW and a DVD+/-RW on two of the other IDE locations--either one
as slave on the 1st IDE channel and the other as master on the 2nd IDE
channel, or else the pair onthe 2nd IDE channel.

(Eventually, I may add another IDE hard drive, or replace the IDE HD by
another array of SATA drives.)

Questions:

1. How are the various SATA and IDE devices named for Linux?

2. Any particular problem with this setup for dual-boot? Grub will be
installed to the MBR on the SATA array, with grub.conf going into the
grub subdirectory of a separate /boot partition on the parallel IDE drive.

(If you reply, please do NOT refer me the the now-ancient dual-boot
Mini-HOWTOs and the like. I already read those things a long time ago.
  And please do NOT tell me to chuck Windows and do Linux only; that's
just not an option given the applications I run.)
