OK, first I know this will be a very controversial question, but I
need to look for another supported Distro. Since RedHat has pulled
the plug on it's 8.0 and 9.0 products and is pushing everyone to
either Enterprise or Fedora, I need to find another Distro.
What I need:
APACHE with PHP support
FTP Server
SAMBA
IMAP
POSTFIX
MailMan
MySQL
DNS
Iptables
KDE
MCEDIT
Open Office
Mozilla
Those are the basic functions I use. I support many websites on my
current RedHat Distro, and need to continue that support. Those
websites use PHP, MySQL, DNS, and PostFix very heavily.
I understand that most Distros are very similar. I need one that does
not automatically start any service with the install. I would rather
have it not install the application until I need it. I am also very
used to the RPM's that are provided by RedHat, so I would like to find
another Distro that supports the same time of feature. The up2date
application provided by RedHat was very nice, and if a Distro has it,
then I would look seriously into using it.
As for purchasing the Distro, I would rather not until I know that is
the one I will be going with. I have purchased RedHat twice (6.2 and
7.2), then I was going to purchase the next one after 9.0, but that
ain't gonna happen now.
Any suggestions would be great. Please try to keep your suggestions
constructive and not destructive.
Thank you.
