mandrake 9.2 cannot get out of command interface

every time i install linux if wont boot into the graphic interface it
always boots into the command interface. my graphic server and moniter
are set up, but when i tried to test my set up it failed.

my video card is a s3 trio64d2
my moniter is acer 34t

they are not the greatest but this computer is a going to be a file
server on my network.

i need the graphical interface because i dont know any commands.

Im running Mandrake linux release 9.9 (fivestar) for 1586
kernal 2.4.22-10mdk on a i586 /tty1
