I've been searching for an ideal mail client for Linux, and haven't
quite been able to find the configuration I'm looking for. I need the
following features:
- easy to use graphical interface for my non-technie wife
- ability to use multiple POP accounts as totally separated profiles,
from the same Linux user account
The main problem I've had: most clients will let you configure
multiple POP accounts, but it's difficult to separate them completely.
For example, in kmail you must create a second set of all the folders
(inbox, sent mail, etc) for the 2nd POP account, and make sure you're
looking in the correct folder. Furthermore, when sending mail, you
must select at compose time the appropriate account you're sending
from.
My ideal usage scenario is this:
- open mail program, and select the proper profile. This could be
done as a command-line parameter (so I can create two different icons,
"His Mail" and "Her Mail") or from a dialog presented upon loading the
program.
- once I'm in the program, I shouldn't see anything from any other
profiles. I should just see one Inbox, one "Sent Messages", etc.
Additionally, when I compose a new message it should automatically be
from the current profile.
This would all be easy if we were using separate Linux user accounts,
but we're using the same account (it's silly to be logging in and out
and managing two accounts when most of our usage is the same anyway).
I just leave our one user logged in all the time.
Any suggestions?
