saving files with Ted

I downloaded Ted to create .rtf files on my RH 9 system running
blackbox. After creating a file, I attempt to save it. When opening
the "save as" dialogue box, I get a bunch of errors like so:

    Name: FilterText
    Class: XmTextField
    Character '\56' not supported in font. Discarded.
------end error--------

When I actually hit the "ok" button I get an error like this:

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
    Major opcode of failed request: 42 (X_SetInputFocus)
    Serial number of failed request: 3499
    Current serial number in output stream: 3499
------end error--------

and the program quits.

What's going on? I recompiled Ted from source, but that didn't help.
Does the X_SetInputFocus mean something is wrong with blackbox's focus
system?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
