Linux 2.4.x on Poweredge 1750 or HP DL360?

I need to buy a 1U server with redudant power supplies. That reduces me to
either the Dell Poweredge 1750 or the HP DL360 G3, both I like.

My question is what one will run Linux better? I mean I want to get any
version of linux, say Slackware, install it, download the latest 2.4.x kernel,
compile it and be on my way. I don't want to bash my head against the wall
trying to get the Dell PERC raid controller working, or find out the HP NC7781
NIC isn't directly supported by kernel 2.4.25 so I can't even use it. Things
like this I don't need.

Can someone recommend what is the best solution for me? I'll be running
SCSI RAID 1 on whatever 1U rack I end up getting.

Does kernel 2.4.25 directly support the HP NC7781 NIC, or its Smart Array 5i
Plus Controller? Or how about the Dell's PERC 4/DI controller or Broadcom
gigabit NIC?
