Then use 'checkinstall', which can create RPM and DEB packages from the
stuff you just compiled. It replaces the "make install" command.

If you need more characters than fit in a single codepage, use Unicode.
That's what it's for. I'm using Unicode on all my computers, websites,
emails, etc. and it works like a charm.

I don't know about the UTF8 support of RedHat and Debian. I'm using
Gentoo, and I can tell you the UTF8 support is quite good.

Which is another reason I'm so happy about Gentoo. Looks like it's a
distribution for you too ;-)
