LILO problems

I run slackware 7.1 on this ibm i got from a friend. I always have
problems when i installed it on this hard drive. During the
installation i'd get fatal errors and all this other crap. I finally
got it where i installed the A and X packages w/o fatal errors. I was
able to get x up and running and everything was great. Then i wanted
to change Lilo to load into the frame buffer 1024x something or other
x32k. i did it b4 when i had a clean installation on a different
computer. When i installed this one though, i screwed up the lilo
program and i can't install it again. I can only use the one already
installed to the MBR. I tried editing the liloconfig file and changing
everything that said "vga= normal" to "vga= " and then whatever the
certain number was that indicated the framebuffer format that i
wanted. When i restarted, it still wouldn't work the way i wanted it
to. I would like the little penguin picture and the small text to go
along with my nice X windows system. I did this b4 in the past and i
want to do it now. I just need to know how to edit the config file.
