On a stock SuSE 9.1 Pro box with supported hardware (which I'd bet 95%
of all new computer fit this category), it functions just as easily as
Windows. My dad simply presses one button in the taskbar for
KInternet to dial into Internet. When it's connected it flashes a few
times. One mouseclick and Evolution opens to check mail. One
mouseclick and Mozilla opens for browsing. So three mouseclieks and
you've done what most Internet users need...

Granted you'll need to configure your mail client and dial-up client
via Yast, but it's actually simpler IMO then the Windows wizards. My
dad knows nothing about computers and wants to learn nothing, yet he
uses LInux daily to get online. He's even surprised me a few times
and downloaded and installed several apps via RPM by himself.

Is Linux harder to use then Windows when you get under the hood? I'll
agree with this, but do the average home user Linux (or SuSE anyway)
is a much sweeter cake walk then Windows. And did I mention my dad's
computer is a PII-500 with 128 Megs/Ram? Boot time with autologin
(power button to desktop) is 30 seconds. When he was running Windows
98 it was 2.5 minutes.

Alex.
