Pseudo ttys in Redhat

Does anyone know it there is a way of having more than 256 psudo ttys in Red
Hat 9

This is the problem we use a software that allows us to have mutliple
screens (tasks) for a user. One user may have like 6 different Psudottys
assigned.. We went out of psudottys. Now we realized that we cannot go over
256.

Any suggestion ?
