I'd suggest that if you want a decent level of cross-platform compatability,
you'd be best off using Java. Make sure that whatever Java development
environment you use produces strictly correct Java code that meets the Sun
spec and it'll work with Sun's JRE under MS-win, Linux, Solaris, Mac...
As long as Sun offer a JRE for a platform, the same Java program will work
on that platform. No need to compile different versions for different
platforms.
